travel united states california morro bay
Morro Bay was a regular hang out when I attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo from 1965 to 1971.
Depending on speed, its about a 20 - 30 minute drive from SLO and, along with Avila Beach, one of the closest ocean communities.
This coastal community's iconic vocal point is the huge haystack shaped Morro Rock that anchors it's harbor.
It is the gateway to Hearst Castle at San Simeon to the north, and features a nice large park on the south.
I learned to sail in this harbor with the college sailing club, all of which were strangers to me.
It is still a favorite stopping place for memories and good seafood.
